Biography - Jean Elizabeth Tait, DKATI
Jean has:
-
Worked in a federal
corrections institution with female offenders in a
variety of security environments, administering
residential, group, and individual art therapy sessions.
In this setting, issues such as depression, self-harm,
addictions, FASD, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, and
body image were addressed.

Developed Creating
Hope Through Art, a suicide prevention adjunct
program for adults and seniors.

Founded a Community
Art Studio in a large downtown cathedral, geared to
working with adult men and women from all walks of life,
including those residing in shelters.

Developed Art &
Self Discovery, a group that meets for six weeks,
for the purpose of assisting women to acquire personal
insight through art and the creative process.

Worked in an Edmonton
social services agency with children and adolescents who
were dealing with behavioral, developmental, and mental
health challenges.

Created Visionary
Soul Journey, Jean’s workshop developed around the
use of the drum and art-making, delivered in a variety
of locations in Western Canada.
Jean has exhibited her
paintings as a First Nations artist since 1992 in Canada and
abroad. Her own experiences of self-exploration through
art-making and those who shared their experiences while
viewing her artwork in exhibitions led to an interest in the
relationship between art and healing.
Jean obtained her diploma
in Art Therapy from the
Kutenai Art Therapy
Institute in Nelson, B.C., Canada.
